Arthur's Town Anchorage

24° 37.2′ N · 75° 40.8′ W

An open roadstead off Arthur's Town, the island's administrative centre and Sidney Poitier's boyhood home. It is rolly but worth it for Da Smoke Pot's home cooking and rake 'n' scrape nights.

Practical

Approach waypoint from the ActiveCaptain listing: from north to south-east, steer for 24°30.900'N 75°42.600'W, then go straight to the anchorage or steer 027° magnetic on the BaTelCo tower. Anchor in about 10-15 ft of sand. Expect roll: swells run up the west coast even in light winds, and some boats leave straight away. It is untenable in anything southerly or westerly. The charted small-boat basin is in ruins (2018). Land the dinghy where sand breaks the rocks south of the tower, or on the beaches near Da Smoke Pot (2024). Good BTC cell signal. Groceries, sundries and a nurse practitioner are in town (older listing).

Best for

Dinner ashore and the June Rake 'n' Scrape Festival, in settled north-east to east winds
