Pelican Cays Land and Sea Park

26° 23.9′ N · 76° 59.5′ W

Abaco's sister park to the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park - 2,100 acres of reef, undersea caves and little cays 8 miles north of Cherokee Sound, established in 1972 and home to more than 170 documented species including Nassau grouper, queen conch, spiny lobster and refuge-seeking sea turtles.

Practical

Bahamas National Trust park, only accessible by boat; little infrastructure and no on-site warden. Day and snorkel moorings available; BNT says fees 'will be applied soon' (no fee listed as of this research). Treat the whole park as no-take: cruisers report no fishing or taking of anything. Seabirds nest on the rocky cays - keep off them in season. Snorkel the Sandy Cay reef at slack water in calm, swell-free weather. Coordinates are the park centroid from Wikipedia/IUCN Protected Planet.
