Allan's Cay Anchorage (inside the lagoon)

24° 44.7′ N · 76° 50.4′ W

A tight, gin-clear lagoon ringed by three cays - Allan's, Southwest Allen's and Leaf - that is one of the prettiest and most crowded holes in the northern Exumas. Excellent all-round shelter, but the tide runs through it like a river and boats lie every which way.

Practical

Holding is good to excellent in the sand patches, poor over grass - buoy or dive your anchor. Strong reversing current at every tide change; a Bahamian moor (two anchors set fore and aft along the tidal axis) is the local standard and will keep you off your neighbours. Typically 7-12 ft MLW inside; watch the shifting sand bar at the south entrance. It fills by mid-afternoon in season, so arrive early. No moorings, no services, no fees.
