Mopion and Punaise Snorkel (PSV)

12° 32.8′ N · 61° 23.8′ W · approximate

Snorkelling on the reefs around the tiny sand cays of Mopion and Punaise (Pinese) north-west of Petit St Vincent - lobsters, moray eels, spotted drums and sleeping nurse sharks in clear, shallow water.

Practical

Coordinate is derived: shallow water just north-west of Mopion islet as mapped in OpenStreetMap (way 24999852). The position of Punaise/Pinese Reef was not found in any source, so this pin covers Mopion; Grenadines Dive and Discover SVG name Mopion Reef and Pineese Reef as the two main sites near PSV. Grenadines Dive: Mopion Reef averages about 50 ft (a drift dive) with big lobsters, morays and nurse/reef sharks; Pinese Reef slopes to about 65 ft and has a sub-surface dive mooring. Snorkel the shallow edges only; currents run with the tide. Reach by dinghy from the PSV anchorage (Doyle WGNS17 'PSV, Mopion Chnl.' 12 32.900N 061 24.100W) in good light and settled conditions; do not anchor on coral. Scuba with a registered operator (Grenadines Dive, Clifton).
