Petite Martinique Village and Boatbuilding
12° 31.6′ N · 61° 23.2′ W
About 900 people live on this 586-acre island, first settled shortly after 1700 by a Frenchman named Pierre from Martinique. Today it lives from fishing and wooden boatbuilding. The main settlement, Madame Pierre, is in the north, and shops, bank and post office cluster by the main pier.
Practical
Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap ferry terminal at the main pier. Noonsite: there are a bank, a post office, a health centre, a few grocery stores and a hardware store near the main pier, plus one restaurant; the population survives on boatbuilding and fishing and is not at all touristy. Wikipedia: population about 900, capital Madame Pierre in the north, only primary school St Thomas Aquinas, with older students taking the boat to Carriacou. Pure Grenada says Hurricane Beryl hit Petite Martinique too; Wikipedia (2026) says up to 95% of residences were damaged or destroyed, and carriacou.biz gives the same 95% figure for structures across Carriacou and PM. Cash (EC$) is king; noforeignland reviewers say cash access is limited, so bring enough from Carriacou. The Osprey ferry links PM with Carriacou and Grenada.
