Cumberland Bay Reef Edges Snorkel

13° 16.1′ N · 61° 15.8′ W · approximate

Snorkel the rocky edges at the mouth of Cumberland Bay, where noforeignland reviewers report stunning underwater life just off the stern-to anchorage.

Practical

Coordinate is derived (approx): inside the bay about 80 m off the northern headland, from the OpenStreetMap coastline. The black-sand bottom shelves away very fast (Running Tide, 2014), so the life is on the rocky sides, not the sandy middle. Noforeignland reviewers mention stunning underwater life in the bay. Stay clear of the stern lines running to shore and the boats manoeuvring stern-to, and lock the dinghy if you land it: Noonsite says the Cumberland dinghy dock is a target for thieves.

Best for

A swim-off-the-stern snorkel in the Cumberland anchorage

Season

Nov-May; north-west winter swell stirs it up
