Pond Bay Anchorage (Savannah Bay north)

18° 28.2′ N · 64° 25.0′ W · approximate

The deeper pool at the north end of the Savannah Bay lagoon, off Pond Bay by Katitche Point: reef-sheltered water off a quiet beach that a long-time cruising couple rate among their favourite BVI spots.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: about 175 m off the small bight at the north end of the Savannah Bay shoreline (OpenStreetMap coastline); Pond Bay and Katitche Point are not named in OpenStreetMap, and no published depths were found. Reached only from the Savannah Bay southern reef gap and then north inside the barrier reef over an inner reef (see Savannah Bay to Pond Bay Inner Passage); the 2015 log says the effort is rewarded and that they favour this northern end because there is a deeper pool to anchor in. Sound in and anchor on sand clear of coral heads. No moorings, no services. Unmarked reef approach that many charter companies put off-limits: confirm in your briefing. Leave in good overhead light.

Best for

A peaceful reef-protected overnight for crews who can read the water

Season

Settled trade winds; avoid in north or west swell and in poor light
