Mahoe Bay Anchorage
18° 28.6′ N · 64° 24.9′ W · approximate
A small reef-fringed bay on Virgin Gorda's west coast between Pond Bay and Nail Bay, home of Mango Bay resort's beach, in the bight the Coast Pilot calls the north anchorage of Western Roads.
Practical
Coordinate approximate: about 150 m off the beach, west of the OpenStreetMap Mahoe Bay label (node 2394870584). No cruising guide or blog found gives depths or anchoring guidance inside Mahoe Bay, so treat it as a settled-weather day stop and sound in; Mango Bay resort describes its beach as naturally protected by a coral reef, so anchor on sand outside the fringing coral. Coast Pilot 5: the Western Roads north anchorage, the bight between Mountain Point and Colison Point, is partly protected to the northwest by the Dog Islets; it seldom blows hard from west of north, but in winter ground swell it is better to anchor in about 13 fathoms midway between Great Dog and Virgin Gorda with good ground tackle and long scope. Holding is described as good. No moorings, fuel or provisions; Mango Bay resort is private accommodation (contact +1 284 340 8804 before landing).
Best for
A quiet lunch stop off a calm beach between Savannah Bay and the Dogs
Season
Settled trade-wind weather; untenable in winter north swell
