Long Bay Anchorage (Virgin Gorda)

18° 29.8′ N · 64° 24.8′ W · approximate

A white-sand anchorage just south of Mountain Point, wedged between reefs on either side, with the Kodiak Queen (Kraken) wreck dive close by.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: about 280 m off the Long Bay shoreline south of Mountain Point (OpenStreetMap coastline). Yacht Warriors: not the most straightforward anchorage because reef extends on either side of the white sandy bottom; arrive early enough with light overhead to see the approach between the reefs, and do not trust the charts, which they believe do not show it accurately. Boats get backwinded and swing across the bay overnight, so drop the hook in the centre of the sand and limit your scope to stay off the reef. Mountain Point (0.3 nm) has day-use moorings but is not recommended when a north swell runs.

Best for

An overnight off a quiet beach near Mountain Point and the Kraken wreck

Season
