Carrot Shoal & Carrot Rock

18° 19.6′ N · 64° 34.2′ W · approximate

An 82 ft rock off the south end of Peter Island with a shallow ridge running away from it, carpeted in orange corals and sponges and home to spiny lobster, eels and other reclusive reef dwellers.

Practical

Position is the unnamed islet south of Peter Island in OpenStreetMap/Wikidata, which matches Coast Pilot 5's 'Carrot Rock, 82 feet high, about 0.3 mile off the south end of the island'. Carrot Shoal, covered 1 1/2 fathoms (9 ft), lies about 0.4 mile southwest of the rock (computed position about 18.3216, -64.5756): a hazard for boats rounding Peter Island; Coast Pilot advises keeping Norman Island open to clear it. Dive: advanced, to about 70 ft, with strong currents at times (Sail Caribbean Divers). Exposed to the open Caribbean.

Best for

Advanced divers hunting critters; a hazard to give a wide berth under sail
