Mae Haad Pier, Koh Tao

10° 5.0′ N · 99° 49.5′ E · approximate

Koh Tao's main village and ferry port on the west coast, where every ferry docks and where you will find the island's banks, government offices and mini-marts a few steps from the jetty.

Practical

Position approximate: placed at the pier head in Mae Haad bay from the Wikidata bay coordinate and OpenStreetMap shops along the pier road; the pier itself is not individually mapped. Wikipedia: Ban Mae Haad is the main settlement and all ferries dock there (Lomprayah, Seatran and Songserm to Chumphon, Phangan and Samui, per Wikivoyage). The SE Asia Pilot calls Sairee and Mae Haad very busy, with more than 70 dive-boat operations and frequent ferries using the jetty in the south of the bay; coral heads and lines near the beach make landing at low tide tricky. Wikivoyage: banks and government offices are here. Koh Tao Complete Guide: Koh Tao Government Hospital is in Mae Haad with 24-hour emergency service (077 456 490); larger hospitals are on Koh Samui and in Chumphon, at least two hours away by ferry. Mini-marts and supermarkets line the pier road (OpenStreetMap: Pen Market, Save Koh Tao and others). Koh Tao is not a port of entry; the SE Asia Pilot places Customs and Immigration for the Samui group at Ao Nathon, Koh Samui (see the Thailand area overview for other ports such as Chumphon).
