Koh Libong North Passage Anchorage

7° 16.9′ N · 99° 24.0′ E · approximate

Shallow, protected water in the channel between Koh Libong's north shore and the Hat Yao mainland, the alternative to the open west coast.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot: north of Koh Talibong, on the mainland side, safe anchorage can be found in shallow water anywhere in the passage, and shallow-draft boats can enter from the west at high tide. No depths are published. This is seagrass country inside the dugong preservation zone (Wikipedia): anchor on clear sand, go dead slow and do not run the dinghy at speed over the meadows. Ban Phrao (Ban Maphrao) Pier on Libong and Hat Yao Pier on the mainland are both a short dinghy ride away. Position approximate: the midpoint of the OpenStreetMap Hat Yao - Ko Libong boat route, which is in the water; sound your way in and pick your own spot.

Best for

Shoal-draft shelter close to Libong village and the dugong grounds

Season

Year-round for shoal draft; enter on a rising tide
