Hat Sai Yao & East Coast Anchorage, Koh Muk

7° 22.1′ N · 99° 18.6′ E

A shallow, southeast-facing bay on Koh Muk's sheltered side, off an 800 m jungle-backed beach, with the Muslim fishing village of Hua Laem and its long jetty to the north.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot (15 nm from Koh Lanta lighthouse): anchor in 3-5 m on sand. Shallow anchorage is also possible east and north of the sandy headland halfway up the east coast. Ashore are small resorts, including Sivalai on the sand spit to the north (the Pilot also lists Sawadee and Charlie's Bungalows here). The long jetty at Hua Laem village is the island's ferry pier and the place to shop. The most protected Koh Muk anchorage in the SW monsoon. Note: Hat Farang on the west coast is the beach usually called Charlie Beach; this east-coast bay is Hat Sai Yao.
