Koh Chong Lat Channel Anchorage

8° 16.7′ N · 98° 37.8′ E

A quiet anchorage in the north of the Chong Lat channel, under the sheer cliffs of Koh Chong Lat, where families of sea otters show up at dusk.

Practical

North Channel: Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 08°16.651N 98°37.823E, about 25 nm from Yacht Haven. 8–10 m, on a direct line between two islets, good in all wind conditions. A mangrove flat nearby is awash at high tide. Mid-tide currents reach 3 knots, so take care swimming. The deep entrance north of Koh Chong Lat is easy. From the north, use the narrow, deep channel between Koh Ngam and Koh Chong Lat, and don't pass north of Koh Ngam, where a very large bank dries. Laem Sak village on the mainland to the east has a good seafood restaurant.

Best for

Otters at dusk and a remote, all-weather night
