Hin Muang

7° 9.6′ N · 98° 49.9′ E

Purple Rock: a narrow submerged ridge of three main pinnacles, plastered in violet soft coral, just north-east of Hin Daeng. It drops to over 60 m and is a favourite for whale sharks and mantas.

Practical

The reef is about 200 m long and under 20 m wide, with three main pinnacles and several smaller ones, dropping to over 60 m; it never breaks the surface (Wikivoyage). Usually dived on the same trip as Hin Daeng, about 1.5 hours by speedboat from Lanta (Lanta Diver). Strong currents; experienced divers only. Position from the PADI dive-site listing. Wikivoyage's Diving in Thailand notes the Mu Ko Lanta National Marine Park oversees the mooring lines at these sites; there are no yacht moorings, and dive boats tie to the park lines. Hin Daeng drops to about 50 m on its south side; Hin Muang is a reef about 200 m long and under 20 m wide with three main pinnacles, dropping past 60 m. Speedboats from Lanta take about 1-1.5 hours, slow boats 3-4 hours. Wikivoyage lists the marine park fee at 200 THB per foreigner (date not stated, verify locally).
