Gibbon Rehabilitation Project

8° 2.5′ N · 98° 23.6′ E · approximate

A long-running sanctuary on the edge of Khao Phra Thaeo rainforest that takes in gibbons rescued from the tourist photo trade and pet keeping, rehabilitates them and releases them back into the forest. Visits are guided learning sessions rather than a zoo walk-through.

Practical

Position approximate: the OSM node is marked as an approximate location; the project is next to the Bang Pae Waterfall car park. Book online before going: the project's site sells 1-hour learning visits per group (2026: 2,500 THB for 1-3 visitors, 5,000 THB for 4-6, up to 12 per group; private visits 10,000 THB), and visitors also pay the national-park entry fee. Do not count on walk-in visits. Phone +66 88 590 9714 (OSM). Leave time before or after to walk to Bang Pae Waterfall, and bring a change of clothes if you want to swim. Do not pose with or pay for photos with gibbons anywhere in Phuket; that trade is what the project exists to stop.
