St Pierre Island (Farquhar Group) Anchorage

9° 19.4′ S · 50° 43.7′ E · approximate

A barren raised-coral island 35 km west of Cerf Island, whose undercut cliffs throw up jets of water from blowholes with every swell.

Practical

Pub. 171 (2010): anchor in 37 m, coral, with the pier bearing 180°; holding is bad, and be ready to put to sea if the wind freshens from the N. The island was devastated by guano mining (ICS). A clump of casuarinas about 12 m high on the N part is the only landmark. Coordinate is approximate: plotted N of the island so the pier bears south, using the OpenStreetMap outline.
