Bancs Providence (Cerf Island) Anchorage

9° 29.9′ S · 50° 57.9′ E · approximate

The most sheltered anchorage on the Providence reef according to the US sailing directions: off the north-west of Bancs Providence (Cerf Island), where the bottom is more even.

Practical

Pub. 171 (2010): anchor in 18 m with the N end of Cerf Island bearing about 142°, 2 nm away; depths extend farther from the reef here. At the Cerf anchorage the tidal stream sets N at 0.25-0.5 knot on the rising tide and SW irregularly on the falling tide, slack about an hour at the turn. Bancs Providence has 4 main and about 6 small cays whose shape changes. Black-naped and greater crested terns breed here (largest greater crested tern colony in Seychelles). Coordinate is approximate, computed from the Pub. 171 bearing and distance and the Wikipedia position of Bancs Providence.
