Farquhar Settlement Services (North Island)

10° 6.8′ S · 51° 10.4′ E · approximate

The small IDC settlement and guesthouse on North Island is the only habitation for hundreds of miles. It has power and fresh water for its own staff and guests, but nothing set up for yachts.

Practical

After Cyclone Fantala (April 2016) wrecked the generator room and desalination facilities, IDC rebuilt them; by April 2019 SBC reported a new generator room and a desalination plant, cyclone-proof staff and guest buildings and a six-room guesthouse. No source lists fuel, water, a shop or any repair service for visiting yachts, so arrive fully self-sufficient and treat any help as a favour. In 2007 the island manager first refused the Ocelot crew permission to land, then let them ashore and gave them fish and vegetables; the resort charged stiff prices. Get IDC permission (and pay the fee) in Victoria before you sail. The paved airstrip has occasional IDC flights, which is the medical evacuation route; no clinic is listed. Coordinate is approximate: the settlement area at the north of North Island near the airstrip.
