Farquhar Race Point Anchorage
10° 6.6′ S · 51° 9.5′ E · approximate
The recommended anchorage at Farquhar, the southernmost Seychelles atoll (about 417 nm SW of Victoria): sand on the bank off the lagoon entrance at Race Point, on the north-west side of North Island.
Practical
Pub. 171 (2010): anchor in 12 m, sand, with Race Point bearing 173° and North Point about 079°; considerable swell is felt. Not to be used in the cyclone season, December to April inclusive. Approaching from the E, round North Point at least 1 nm off. The tidal stream at the anchorage sets NE on the rising tide until 3 hours after HW (0.25-1.25 knots at springs), then W at about 0.5 knot or slack. Vessels drawing more than 3 m should not try the channel to the inner harbour except in emergency (narrow, winding, 3-4 knot streams). The barrier reef is steep-to except on the NW side, where there is a sand bank with a least depth of 11 m and the bottom plainly visible. Landing needs IDC permission. Coordinate is approximate, computed from the Pub. 171 bearings with North Point taken as the northernmost point of the OpenStreetMap North Island outline and Race Point 1.2 nm SW of it.
