Curieuse wild coco de mer
4° 16.9′ S · 55° 43.0′ E · approximate
Curieuse is the only place other than Praslin where the coco de mer — the world's heaviest nut, 15–30 kg — grows wild, here in the dry scrub on the central hills below Mont Curieuse (172 m).
Practical
French Wikipedia cites about 3,600 palms; more than 150 were lost in the 1967 fire. Seen from the Anse Badamier trail and the round-island trail; picking or removing nuts is prohibited (certified nuts are sold legally at the Coco Curieuse Boutique). Coordinate approx: Mont Curieuse summit as marked on the park signboard map, which places the palms in the hill scrub.
Best for
Seeing the coco de mer in the wild without the Vallée de Mai crowds
