Anse Forbans (off-reef day anchorage)

4° 46.6′ S · 55° 31.9′ E · approximate

A quiet reef-protected bay on Mahé's south-east coast with calm, shallow water inside the reef, good snorkelling and the Allamanda resort's beach restaurant and bar.

Practical

Approximate: placed about 700 m off the beach, east of the Anse Forbans bay point (OpenStreetMap); no published yacht anchorage or waypoint. Seyvillas: the offshore reef protects the bay from the open sea; the water is shallow and calm with no steep drop-offs; seagrass June to September; good for swimming, snorkelling and fishing. Pick a sand patch outside the reef by eye in good light and take the dinghy through a gap; no dinghy dock. Exposed to the SE trades: a calm-weather or NW-monsoon day stop only. Ashore: Les Palms Restaurant (7:30am-11pm) and Ocean View Bar (9am-11pm) at the Allamanda resort, and Surfers Beach Restaurant (noon-10pm) about 800 m away (Seyvillas listings; verify locally). Bus stop on the coast road.
