Roscoe Bay (West Redonda Island)

50° 9.7′ N · 124° 45.8′ W

A small, fully enclosed bay on the east side of West Redonda Island, inside Roscoe Bay Provincial Park. A drying bar across the entrance keeps it calm and limits when you can come and go. A short walk from the head leads to Black Lake for a warm freshwater swim.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM bay point. The outer and inner coves are split by a shoal that dries; one blog gives a drying height of about 0.8 m (2.6 ft). Shallow-draft boats cross from about half tide; keelboats should enter and leave near high water on a rising tide. A deep-draft boat has been trapped inside for most of a day, so check tide tables against your draft before you go in. Plenty of rings inside, with some swinging room when it is not crowded. Federal Designated Sewage Area: no sewage discharge. BC Parks advises against swimming in the bay because of poor flushing and past high fecal coliform counts; swim in Black Lake instead. No potable water: treat or boil any lake or stream water for 5 minutes.
