Hike· West Redonda· Salish Sea — San Juans, Gulf Islands & Desolation Sound
Black Lake (Roscoe Bay)
50° 9.5′ N · 124° 47.5′ W
A forest lake just behind Roscoe Bay, reached by a short, flat path from the head of the inner cove. In summer the water is warm and clean, much better for swimming than the bay itself.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM centre of the lake. BC Parks describes a flat 200 m portage from the bay, used by canoes and kayaks, and a lakeshore trail of about 1-2 hours. A longer trail climbs Mt. Llanover for a view over Desolation Sound. Sunken logs in the lake. No lifeguards. Treat or boil lake water before drinking.
Best for
A warm freshwater swim
