Roche Harbor Resort Marina (San Juan Island)

48° 36.6′ N · 123° 9.3′ W

A historic resort on the old lime works at the north end of San Juan Island, with a big marina, a hotel, restaurants and a well-stocked store. The nightly flag-lowering ceremony with a cannon is a summer tradition. It used to be a seasonal customs port, and an unstaffed CBP booth is still on the docks.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM marina. Call the harbourmaster on VHF 78A only once you are in the harbour with the marina in sight (9 am to 5 pm). Marina office 800-586-3590, marina@rocheharbor.com. Reservations are highly recommended; in peak months a waitlist opens at 8:30 am for boats already in the harbour; no July 4th reservations. Check-in and check-out at noon; cancel 24 hours ahead. Fuel dock (diesel and ethanol-free gas) 360-378-9816 ext. 2. Mobile pump-out; laundry, showers, market, three restaurants. Colors ceremony 20 minutes before sunset, early May to late September. Approach from the north between Henry and Pearl Islands, or from the south through Mosquito Pass; avoid the shallow gap between San Juan Island and Pearl Island. Customs: Roche Harbor is no longer a staffed port of entry. Report through the CBP ROAM app (iPads in the unstaffed booth on G Dock can be used if this is your first US stop); if ROAM does not work, CBP may send you to Friday Harbor or Anacortes. US arrival: report with the CBP ROAM app. Set up your profiles and trip ahead of time, start the arrival report only after you cross into US waters, and expect a short video call. Boats 30 ft and longer need a current CBP user-fee decal. If ROAM fails, clear in person at Friday Harbor (360-378-2080), Anacortes (360-293-2331) or Point Roberts; NEXUS and I-68 holders may phone 1-800-562-5943.
