Westcott Bay (San Juan Island)

48° 35.9′ N · 123° 9.2′ W

Westcott Bay opens off Mosquito Pass just north of Garrison Bay. It is wide, shallow and sheltered, with a large shellfish farm in the middle. It is a calmer alternative when Roche Harbor is packed.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM bay. A large aquaculture site with clam beds and suspended oyster racks, covered by about 3 ft (1 m), sits in the middle of the bay about 1 mile in from the entrance: keep well clear. Westcott Bay and Bell Point are on the Northwest Straits Commission map of voluntary no-anchor zones for eelgrass; Friends of the San Juans report that the bay lost more than 45 acres of eelgrass. Anchor in deeper water outside the eelgrass edge and away from the farm. Access is through Mosquito Pass from the south or from Roche Harbor. Good shelter from most winds.
