Anchorage· Jones· Salish Sea — San Juans, Gulf Islands & Desolation Sound

Jones Island Marine State Park (Jones Island)

48° 37.1′ N · 123° 2.8′ W

A wooded state park island at the north end of San Juan Channel, with camp sites, wildlife and about four miles of trails. North Cove has the dock and buoys; South Cove is the quieter anchorage.

Practical

Coordinate is the State Parks buoy position in North Cove. Seven buoys and 128 ft of dock in North Cove; the dock is removed early October to early April and was taken out for winter on October 15, 2026. A marked reef sits at the north-east entrance to North Cove, and charted rocks line the south-east shore. Both coves take wake from passing boats in summer. Strong northerlies in high pressure make North Cove rough; southerlies in low pressure hit South Cove. Drinking water has been off since June 26, 2026 because of a leak: bring your own. Toilets, fire pits and picnic shelters ashore; no garbage service. Dogs on leash. State Parks moorage (2025 rates, still posted in 2026): buoys $23 a night, docks $1 per foot ($23 minimum), charged from 1 pm to 8 am all year. Self-register and pay on arrival, rafted boats included; phone registration is posted at the buoys. An annual State Parks moorage permit ($7 per foot, $80 minimum) covers docks and buoys.
