Deer Harbor Anchorage (Orcas Island)

48° 36.9′ N · 123° 0.3′ W

Deer Harbor is a deep, well-sheltered inlet with room to anchor below the village and the marina. It is protected from most summer winds and close to the fuel dock and store.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM bay. Coast Pilot: good anchorage in 6-7 fathoms (36-42 ft, 11-13 m) about 0.2 mile from the head; pass either side of Fawn Island at the entrance; keep at least 300 yards off the east shore, where a shoal extends more than 200 yards. A sunken boat that is not charted snags anchors under the cliff at Steep Point near the marina's D Dock: anchor north of D Dock or south of the fuel dock instead (PredictWind). Crane Island off the entrance has foul ground and rocks off its north shore.
