Friday Harbor US Customs Dock (San Juan Island)

48° 32.4′ N · 123° 0.9′ W · approximate

Friday Harbor is a staffed US port of entry and the main place to clear in person when arriving from Canada. Most crews now report with the CBP ROAM app instead, but this is the fallback if the app fails or CBP asks you to come in. Crew stay aboard until the boat is cleared.

Practical

Position is approximate: the customs float on the outer face of Breakwater B at the north end of the port marina (Breakwater B mapped in OSM). CBP Friday Harbor office: 271 Front Street, 360-378-2080. US arrival: report with the CBP ROAM app. Set up your profiles and trip ahead of time, start the arrival report only after you cross into US waters, and expect a short video call. Boats 30 ft and longer need a current CBP user-fee decal. If ROAM fails, clear in person at Friday Harbor (360-378-2080), Anacortes (360-293-2331) or Point Roberts; NEXUS and I-68 holders may phone 1-800-562-5943. Crew may help with lines but then stay aboard until cleared, and you may be asked to finish ROAM steps while tied at the dock. In 2023 the in-person hours were 8 am to 8 pm from mid-May to mid-September and 8 am to 5 pm the rest of the year, arriving at least 30 minutes before closing; check current hours. Write your clearance number on your log. Agricultural rules on fresh food change often; ask CBP before you cross.
