Port of Friday Harbor Marina (San Juan Island)

48° 32.3′ N · 123° 0.9′ W

The main harbour of the San Juans and the county seat, with the ferry landing, shops and restaurants all a short walk from the docks. The port runs a large marina behind floating breakwaters with a big share of slips kept for visitors. It is the usual first or last stop for crews crossing to or from Canada.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM marina area. Over 500 berths, at least 150 used for visitors (Coast Pilot); larger boats side-tie on the floating breakwaters. Marina office 360-378-2688; listings give VHF 66 (older port sheets say 66A, a 2024 sheet said 66US: confirm on the port website before you call). Summer reservations are strongly advised. Fuel (gas and diesel) at the fuel pier, water, pump-out, showers, laundry. Do not anchor within 100 yards of the floating breakwater: its anchor cables foul ground tackle. Seaplanes land in the harbour; amber strobes on the docks, the UW Labs shore and Brown Island flash when a plane is taking off or landing. Ferry wake reaches the outer docks. The Friday Harbor marine preserve covers the water off the UW Labs north of the marina: no bottomfish or shellfish harvest. US arrival: report with the CBP ROAM app. Set up your profiles and trip ahead of time, start the arrival report only after you cross into US waters, and expect a short video call. Boats 30 ft and longer need a current CBP user-fee decal. If ROAM fails, clear in person at Friday Harbor (360-378-2080), Anacortes (360-293-2331) or Point Roberts; NEXUS and I-68 holders may phone 1-800-562-5943.
