Turn Island Marine State Park (San Juan Island)

48° 32.2′ N · 122° 58.4′ W · approximate

A small wooded island at the corner of San Juan Channel, two miles from Friday Harbor. It is part of the San Juan Islands National Wildlife Refuge, with a short loop trail and primitive camp sites. A quiet lunch or overnight stop close to town.

Practical

Position is approximate, in the cove on the north-west side where the two park buoys are. Land from that cove; the cove to the west has a reef running off the island, so do not use that beach. Turn Rock, about 0.2 mile east of the island, bares at half tide: give it at least 100 yards. Currents in this part of San Juan Channel are strong. No water; toilets ashore. No fires and no dogs at any time (wildlife refuge). State Parks moorage (2025 rates, still posted in 2026): buoys $23 a night, docks $1 per foot ($23 minimum), charged from 1 pm to 8 am all year. Self-register and pay on arrival, rafted boats included; phone registration is posted at the buoys. An annual State Parks moorage permit ($7 per foot, $80 minimum) covers docks and buoys.
