Prevost Harbor (Stuart Island)

48° 40.7′ N · 123° 11.8′ W

A sheltered harbour on the north side of Stuart Island behind Satellite Island, looking out toward the Canadian Gulf Islands. State Parks keeps a dock and buoys here, and the road to Turn Point is a short walk away.

Practical

Coordinate is the State Parks Prevost Harbor point. Enter only at the west end of Satellite Island and stay in the channel to the park dock; do not pass east of Satellite Island (rocks and reefs). Anchor in 6-7 fathoms (36-42 ft, 11-13 m), mud, in the wider part just inside the entrance, keeping clear of a rock that uncovers 6 ft (1.8 m) about 200 yards off the south shore (Coast Pilot). 7 buoys and a 128 ft dock; composting toilet to the right of the dock. Use the Reid Harbor pump-out. No drinking water October 1 to April 15. A private/Coast Guard pier is on the west shore. State Parks moorage (2025 rates, still posted in 2026): buoys $23 a night, docks $1 per foot ($23 minimum), charged from 1 pm to 8 am all year. Self-register and pay on arrival, rafted boats included; phone registration is posted at the buoys. An annual State Parks moorage permit ($7 per foot, $80 minimum) covers docks and buoys.
