Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) Season

10° 19.2′ N · 123° 45.0′ E · approximate

From about June to October the SW monsoon brings squalls, more rain and swell into west- and south-facing anchorages, and overlaps the main typhoon season.

Practical

Coordinate is a nominal centre of Cebu island. Webb: in the Tañon Strait the wind is funnelled from the south in the SW season, the southern strait is somewhat protected, and July-September tends to be squally. Changing Spots (June 2018) found Malapascua uncomfortable in the SW monsoon, with swell wrapping both ends and westerly squalls of 20-25 kn; move to the north side. Good SW-season stops: Liloan Bay (Cebu), Santa Fe/Jilantangan (Bantayan), Guintacan, Sumilon's ENE beach, Port Carmen.
