Magellan's Cross
10° 17.6′ N · 123° 54.1′ E
The octagonal coral-stone pavilion (built 1834) on Plaza Sugbo that houses the cross planted by Magellan's expedition on April 21, 1521 - the original encased in tindalo wood since 1835.
Practical
Declared a National Cultural Treasure in 2021 together with the Basilica. The pavilion is closed to the public until further notice after cracks from the 2025 Cebu earthquake; visitors may still pray outside and pass candles through the openings. Pickpockets work the plaza - keep valuables close. Walkable from Fort San Pedro and the Carbon Market.
