Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) Cruising Season

10° 19.2′ N · 123° 45.0′ E · approximate

From about December to April the NE trade-wind monsoon brings the most settled, drier cruising of the year around Cebu: the dry season runs roughly February to April, and the west coasts of Cebu and Bantayan are in the lee.

Practical

Coordinate is a nominal centre of Cebu island. Use south- and west-facing anchorages: Malapascua south coast or lighthouse, Bantayan town and the south coast west of Santa Fe, Santiago Bay on the Camotes, Badian Bay. In the Tañon Strait the wind is funnelled from the north in this season (Webb). Fishing FADs with nets strung between them are common in the open seas - stand a good watch and avoid night passages close to the coast. Olango's migratory shorebirds peak in December-February.
