Punta Perico (Isla Carmen)
25° 57.9′ N · 111° 4.1′ W
The rugged east point of Isla Carmen, where tilted and folded red beds of ash-rich sediment—debris eroded from the old volcanic arc on the peninsula—make a textbook piece of Baja geology.
Practical
Coordinate is the GeoNames 'Punta Perico' point (OpenStreetMap cape node 25.96583, -111.06782). The CCA's 2024 cruise plan lists 'Bahia Salinas or Punta Perico on the back side of Isla Carmen' as anchorage options for snorkeling and hiking, uninhabited and with no services; no cruising source found gives depths or protection, so treat any stop here as a settled-weather, daylight anchorage and sound in. Exposed to the east and to the open Gulf. Carmen is private: land only where permitted. CONANP protected-area fee applies: a Loreto Bay National Park day pass (bracelet) was MX$215 per person in 2025, and the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) covers every federal protected area; buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx or from the rangers at La Dársena in Loreto, and carry proof aboard.
