Bahía Salinas Wreck (Isla Carmen)

25° 59.3′ N · 111° 6.2′ W · approximate

A sunken 120-ft fishing boat in only 35 ft of water off the old salt works, now home to schools of fish—one whale shark stayed around it for several days.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: in Bahía Salinas off the old pier, about 700 m from the OpenStreetMap coastline; Practical Sailor says a buoy marks the wreck of a fishing trawler that sank in the 1980s—use the buoy, not this point. About 35 ft deep (California Diving News); easy snorkel from above in clear water, a good first dive. Anchor in sand well clear of the wreck. The bay is open to the south. CONANP protected-area fee applies: a Loreto Bay National Park day pass (bracelet) was MX$215 per person in 2025, and the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) covers every federal protected area; buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx or from the rangers at La Dársena in Loreto, and carry proof aboard.
