Painted Cliffs Anchorage (Isla Carmen)

25° 59.8′ N · 111° 4.4′ W

A sand anchorage under banded, multicoloured cliffs round the corner east of Bahía Salinas—the place to hide when a southerly makes Salinas uncomfortable.

Practical

Coordinate is the anchored position (25°59.805'N, 111°04.403'W) logged by the yacht BlueJacket in May 2012—25 ft over sand—checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline. HAZARD: a barely submerged rock at 25°59.906'N, 111°04.448'W (about 200 m north-north-west of the anchor spot); do not anchor or pass west of it. Swell wraps round the point from the south-east—BlueJacket set a stern anchor to hold the bow into it. Live Free 2 Travel Slow used it as their southerly-weather refuge from Salinas: no great beach, but little wind and no southerly swell. No services. CONANP protected-area fee applies: a Loreto Bay National Park day pass (bracelet) was MX$215 per person in 2025, and the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) covers every federal protected area; buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx or from the rangers at La Dársena in Loreto, and carry proof aboard.
