Puerto Chiapas Port of Entry and Marina Chiapas

A secure marina at the end of a mangrove-lined channel in Puerto Chiapas (Puerto Madero), near the Guatemalan border: Mexico's southernmost Pacific port of entry and the easiest place to clear out of Mexico for Central America.

Practical

S/V Liquid logged the marina at 14°41.92'N 92°23.51'W (2018); S/V Some Tuesday's slip at 14°41.933'N 92°23.535'W (Feb 2026). Anchoring in the open port is no longer allowed (Practical Sailor, 2025). Call the Port Captain on VHF 16 at the entrance; marina staff often answer and relay permission, and warned of dredging in 2026. Enter in daylight and stay mid-channel; the last channel is narrow (about 100 ft), poorly lit, soft mud. On arrival the Port Captain, Navy (with a sniffer dog), Immigration and Customs board, usually within about 30 minutes. Have paperwork ready and a skipper's certificate. 2018 costs (Liquid): about US$0.80/ft/day plus taxes (9 days = US$460), flat power and water fee, Port Authority 100 MXN, Port Captain 435 MXN; Customs, Immigration and Navy free (verify locally). Clear-out: tell the office by 8am the day before; staff drive you to Immigration and the Port Captain (expect several hours); the Navy exit inspection can be at any hour and you must leave within about 15 minutes of it. Cancel your Temporary Import Permit in person before leaving if you will not return. Pool, BAO restaurant, travel lift and paved yard; few parts or chandlery on site. Concrete docks with little surge. Commercial fuel dock in the estuary (black-tire face: use fenders).
