Islas San Benito Anchorage

28° 18.2′ N · 115° 34.6′ W · approximate

Three wind-scoured islets 15 nm west of Cedros - West, Middle and East Benito - that guidebook authors call the most remote and rugged anchorage on the Baja coast, with a seasonal fishing camp and big lighthouse on West Benito.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: placed in the channel between West Benito and Middle Benito, off the fishing hamlet mapped in OpenStreetMap on West Benito's east shore; no published waypoint was found. Roads Less Traveled (2010) found the anchorage a bed of kelp paddies and the weather grim, and moved on to Cedros - expect kelp and swell. West Benito is the largest island (2.6 sq km) with a 17 m lighthouse tower near its north-west end; Cassin's auklets breed here (Wikipedia). Part of the CONANP Pacific Islands reserve - carry the Conservation Passport; land only with respect for the fishing cooperative. No services.
