Isla Santa Catalina Giant Barrel Cactus
25° 39.2′ N · 110° 46.9′ W
Santa Catalina's slopes carry the tallest specimens of the endemic giant barrel cactus Ferocactus diguetii, alongside seven endemic reptiles including the Santa Catalina Island rattlesnake.
Practical
Coordinate is the island's Wikipedia/GeoHack position. This is a view-from-the-boat experience: landing and hiking are not permitted for visitors on Isla Catalana (Loreto.com, citing the park management program); the Anzueladero and Los Burritos trails are only for authorised expeditions. Binoculars from an anchorage off the south end show the cactus 'gardens'.
Best for
Seeing a unique island ecosystem without setting foot on it
