Bahía Agua Verde

25° 31.4′ N · 111° 4.0′ W · approximate

A green-water bay ringed by desert peaks with a goat-herding village, a tienda and palapa restaurants—'a mecca for cruisers' and often the busiest anchorage between La Paz and Loreto.

Practical

Coordinate is OpenStreetMap's 'Bahía Agua Verde' bay node (GeoNames gives 25.52189, -111.06617), checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline; individual anchoring spots are listed in the notes, not surveyed. Three distinct anchoring areas with different protection (Practical Sailor). The north-side anchorage is well protected but small and deepens quickly; the larger south-side anchorage, off the white beach and village, can be rough in a strong norther (Club Cruceros). A charter skipper calls the peninsula side well protected from everything except the east (SAIL); Canadian Yachting agrees—open only to easterlies. Coming from the south, crews pick their way past two reefs by lining up on identifiable rocks—enter in good light. About 20 nm south-east of Puerto Escondido in a straight line—'a partial day's sail south of Escondido or Loreto' (Club Cruceros). Village: tienda, palapas, goats and sometimes fresh goat cheese; petroglyph cave hike from the north anchorage.
