Isla Santa Catalina Anchorage

25° 36.1′ N · 110° 46.5′ W · approximate

Elephant Rock Cove at the remote south end of Isla Santa Catalina (Isla Catalana), the park's most strictly protected island—fish so unused to people that they flee snorkelers, and blacktip reef sharks on the reef.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: a small cove at the island's south end in the OpenStreetMap outline, near where Loreto.com places the El Elefante rock formation and Los Burritos beach; checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline. Confirm the cove visually. IMPORTANT: Isla Catalana is a Terrestrial and Insular Preservation subzone—general tourism and landing are prohibited; only authorised research, park management or emergencies may land. Enjoy it from the boat and the water only. Exposed and far from help (about 16 nm north-east of Agua Verde, straight line); settled weather only. CONANP protected-area fee applies: a Loreto Bay National Park day pass (bracelet) was MX$215 per person in 2025, and the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) covers every federal protected area; buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx or from the rangers at La Dársena in Loreto, and carry proof aboard.
