Isla Requesón Anchorage

26° 38.5′ N · 111° 50.1′ W

A hammerhead-shaped island joined to the shore by a sand spit at lower tides — jaw-dropping from above, with clear water, reef fish and a beach camp vibe.

Practical

Settled weather or moderate S/SE only. Anchor at the north end just outside the inner caleta in 20-25 ft (at high tide), good sand with some grass; protected up to about due east. The southern caleta gives little north protection and the north end wraps in a strong norther; one crew was blown out twice by 20 kn afternoon winds. It shoals in a hurry — boats drawing 6 ft or more should not try to go inside. Tip: if the last Buenaventura building to the north starts to disappear behind you, you are too close. Hazard: Roca Frijoles seamount 2 nm N of the island. Great SUP and paddling; Buenaventura's restaurant and small market a short dinghy ride or walk north.
