Bahía Coyote Anchorage (Bahía Concepción)

26° 43.2′ N · 111° 54.2′ W · approximate

The calm, island-studded heart of Bahía Concepción — warm water, beach palapas and a string of tiny islets, with the Coyote beach bar and a highway tienda ashore.

Practical

Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap label point for Bahía el Coyote (in the water), not a surveyed anchoring spot. Cruisers anchor off Playa El Coyote in sand; depth is not published in the sources — sound your way in and keep Santispac Reef plotted. Good in northerly and westerly winds, but it becomes a lee shore in S/SW wind: a 2020 crew left when it rose to 14-18 kn from S/SE at 5 pm. Some norther chop wraps in. Gnats (no-see-ums) can be severe on calm evenings. A forum report warns there is no marina or security and a few break-ins have occurred — lock the dinghy. Roadside tienda with tomatoes, limes, eggs and staples; a roadside stand sells fish tacos and beer.

Best for

Calm-water swimming and island-hopping by dinghy

Season
