El Burro Cove Anchorage
26° 43.9′ N · 111° 54.3′ W
Centrally placed among the north-central coves, El Burro is lined with funky expat beach cabanas and is famous among cruisers for JC's margaritas across the highway.
Practical
Sandy shelf shoals quickly, so you cannot get close in: anchor in 15-25 ft, good holding sand, and check your swing toward shore; use extra scope in W/NW wind on the sloping bottom. Protected from N and W but open to SE; in a strong norther some wind chop wraps in — Santispac is better, or tuck as far north as possible. Several semi-permanent boats may be moored. Mark Santispac Reef before approaching. Kayak/sail rental and a sports bar at the north end of the beach. Highway noise is near-constant. Torturously hot in summer; fall is delightful.
