River Fort Martello Tower
17° 35.7′ N · 61° 49.8′ W
A 56-ft Napoleonic-era tower above River Beach, said to be the oldest Martello tower in the Caribbean and still Barbuda's tallest building. It guarded the south coast and its anchorage, probably on the site of an earlier Spanish fort.
Practical
Coordinate verified: OpenStreetMap (way 1110496736) and Wikipedia (Martello Tower (Barbuda)). About 3 miles south of Codrington on River Road, a short walk west of River Wharf; everyone headed for the south-coast beaches passes it. The floors are gone and the tower is often home to aggressive bees, so look before going near the entrance. Free; no facilities. Anchor off River Beach (see Martello Tower Anchorage) and land on the beach.
