Port de Gustavia Capitainerie (Clearance)
17° 53.9′ N · 62° 51.0′ W
The harbour master's office on the Gustavia waterfront - St Barth's only port of entry, where every visiting yacht clears in and out, even when arriving from French Saint-Martin.
Practical
Position is the OpenStreetMap harbour-authority node. Office open every day of the year 7:00 am-6:00 pm; all communication with the Capitainerie is by VHF 12 ('Port de Gustavia') - call on approach. Online pre-registration is only recorded once printed and signed at the office; an agent is not required. Since 1 September 2024 the French Antilles use an online clearance declaration, and Gustavia also runs its own clearance site (clairances.portdegustavia.fr) that you can fill in up to 24 hours ahead - note the clearance number and password it gives you; but expect the skipper to appear in person at the office. Fly the Q flag until cleared; only the skipper needs to go ashore. Charter boats cannot always register online (Happy Charter 2026). Clearing in and out are both required - for a stay of up to about 48 hours you can sometimes clear out at the same visit. Port fees are paid on departure. Noforeignland reviewers say check-in usually takes 15-20 minutes. Immigration questions go to the Gendarmerie (bta.st-barthelemy@gendarmerie.interieur.gouv.fr). Tel +590 590 27 66 97. The office has free Wi-Fi tickets and a book exchange (2016 report).
