New Year's Eve in Gustavia
17° 53.8′ N · 62° 51.0′ W · approximate
The world's most famous superyacht New Year: Gustavia's harbour packed bow to stern from Christmas into early January, fireworks over the harbour at midnight and a one-day New Year's Eve pursuit regatta round the island.
Practical
Position is Gustavia harbour (approx). The New Year's Eve Regatta is held on 31 December (pursuit start, course round the island past Shell Beach and Colombier, finish off the harbour entrance). Quay berths and moorings are effectively unavailable for cruisers; anchor early at Colombier, Corossol or the outer anchorage (expect crowding and roll) and dinghy in. Restaurants need bookings weeks ahead. Northerly swells are common at this time of year - have a plan B.
