Grand Ilet Nature Reserve (Seabirds)
15° 50.3′ N · 61° 35.5′ W
An uninhabited, cliff-bound island south of Terre-de-Haut that is a seabird stronghold - frigatebirds, brown and masked boobies, terns and the only red-footed and blue-footed boobies in Guadeloupe - with turtle nesting beaches and a salt pond.
Practical
Position is Wikipedia's island coordinate (15°50'15"N 61°35'30"W). Owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral since 1994, IUCN cat. IV, inside the Les Saintes natural reserve (English Wikipedia). Watch from the water; landing is disturbing to nesting birds and the east side (Grosse Pointe) drops straight into the Dominica Passage swell. Passe des Dames (west, toward La Coche) is described as dangerous; Passe du Grand Îlet lies between the island and La Redonde. Mapped wreck south of Grand Îlet (OSM, 15.8345,-61.5819).
